7-Day Moroccan Highlights: Marrakech, Mountains, Desert & Beach

Overview

7 Days Morocco Desert & Coast Adventure – From Marrakech Tour Overview This 7-day journey combines Morocco’s most breathtaking contrasts: the vibrant streets of Marrakech, the dramatic landscapes of the Atlas Mountains, the golden dunes of the Sahara, and the refreshing sea breeze of Essaouira. Along the way, you’ll explore ancient kasbahs, wander through lush oases, ride camels into the desert, and immerse yourself in the culture and colors of Morocco before returning to Marrakech.

Upon arrival at Marrakech airport, you’ll be warmly welcomed and transferred to your hotel in the city center. The evening is yours to experience the magic of Jemaa el-Fna Square, alive with storytellers, street food, musicians, and a whirlwind of sights and sounds. Overnight in Marrakech.

Leave behind Marrakech’s bustle and journey through the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, North Africa’s highest road pass. En route, you’ll spot traditional Berber villages and terraced fields clinging to the slopes. Stop at Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO-listed fortified village and famous film location, for lunch and exploration. Continue through the Skoura Oasis and the Roses Valley, traveling along the legendary “Road of a Thousand Kasbahs” before reaching the Dades Valley for dinner and overnight.

After breakfast, head to Todra Gorge, where sheer cliffs rise dramatically on either side of the palm-filled valley. Stroll among its impressive canyons before continuing east through Tinjdad and Erfoud, known for fossils and desert crafts. By late afternoon, arrive at Merzouga, gateway to the Sahara. Swap your vehicle for a camel and trek across the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi to your desert camp. As night falls, enjoy a Berber dinner, live music, and stargazing beneath the vast desert sky. Overnight in a luxury desert camp.

Wake to a magical sunrise over the dunes before leaving the desert. Travel through Rissani and the palm groves of the Draa Valley, dotted with ancient kasbahs and timeless villages. Continue to Ouarzazate, Morocco’s “Hollywood,” where blockbuster movies and series such as Gladiator and Game of Thrones were filmed. Check into your hotel and relax, perhaps with a swim, before dinner. Overnight in Ouarzazate.

After breakfast, return through the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, with panoramic views of the Atlas Mountains. Descend into fertile plains and continue west to the Atlantic coast, arriving in Essaouira — a breezy fishing port and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Stroll along the fortified ramparts, wander through the colorful medina, or relax on the sandy beach. Essaouira’s laid-back atmosphere is the perfect contrast to the desert. Dinner and overnight in Essaouira.

Morning at leisure in Essaouira before returning to Marrakech. In the afternoon, discover the city on a guided tour: explore hidden gardens, maze-like souks, and the Koutoubia Mosque, before ending in the lively Jemaa el-Fna Square, where performers and food stalls bring the city to life each evening. Overnight in Marrakech.
